Lizzo is opening up like never before about her transformative weight loss journey—and it’s not just about the numbers on the scale. In a candid interview on the Just Trish podcast, the Grammy-winning artist revealed that she briefly tried Ozempic, a popular weight-loss drug, but ultimately chose a different path rooted in discipline, self-awareness, and lifestyle changes.
“I’ve tried everything,” Lizzo admitted. “Ozempic works because you eat less food. It makes you feel full. But if you can do that on your own—mind over matter—it’s the same thing.” Her decision to stop using the medication came from a desire to take full control of her health and body on her own terms.
One of the biggest shifts? Ditching her vegan diet. After nearly a decade of plant-based eating, Lizzo realized she was consuming up to 5,000 calories a day in fake meats, bread, and rice just to feel full. “I was expanding my stomach with things that weren’t actually nourishing me,” she said.
A trip to Japan changed everything. Inspired by the country’s whole-foods approach, she reintroduced meat into her diet—beef, chicken, fish—and found her body responded with gratitude.
But the transformation wasn’t just physical. Lizzo emphasized the mental and emotional work behind her glow-up.
She cut out sugary Starbucks drinks, focused on savory, protein-rich meals, and embraced a consistent fitness routine. “I feel like I worked really, really hard. It was intentional,” she said. “Everything in my life kind of elevated. I do feel like I’m the baddest.”
Despite her success, Lizzo is careful not to present her journey as a one-size-fits-all solution. “Everybody’s body is different,” she reminded listeners. “I don’t want people to copy what I did and feel discouraged if it doesn’t work for them.”
Her message is clear: health is personal, progress is powerful, and confidence is the real goal.
