Is Eminem trolling the world? Rapper under fire for 'homophobic' ballad 'Rap God

Gay rights activists have accused the superstar rapper of "being stuck in the last century" after the release of a new track where he discusses beating "faggots" with household furniture.

In Rap God, the latest release off his forthcoming album Marshall Mathers LP 2, Eminem sings: "I'll still be able to break a mother------' table over the back of a couple of faggots and crack it half."

The second verse continues: "Little gay-looking boy, So gay I can barely say it with a straight face-looking boy, You witnessing massacre like you watching a church gathering taking place-looking boy / 'Oy vey, that boy's gay,' that's all they say looking-boy."

UK gay rights charity Stonewall said in a statement that his latest song's content was "outdated and deeply offensive". And DJ Boy George encouraged his fans to boycott his latest album, which is a sequel to the original Marshall Mathers album which skyrocketed him to fame in 2000.

The superstar rapper has frequently been criticised for violent and "homophobic" lyrics in the past. Gay rights activists protested a duet he performed with bisexual singer Elton John in 2010.

But Eminem could be trying to deliberately troll his longtime critics and naysayers with his in-character rapping, reports suggest.

That's especially the case given the rapper says he has sobered up - and even announced his support for same-sex marriage in an interview with The New York Times in 2010.

"He's been doing this for years, and he's too smart to not know how lyrics like this will be perceived," 

The report continued: "How much do (Eminem's character's) views, anxieties, and personal issues correspond with those of the real rapper? It's usually too murky to tell."

It's a better time than ever for Eminem's fans to ask: Could the real Slim Shady please stand up?
